Training Course on
Observational Seismology,
Hazard Assessment and Risk Mitigation
The center of Egyptian National Seismic Network (ENSN) arranges annual training courses. The courses on Observational Seismology and Seismic Hazard Assessment" are of six weeks duration. The program is targeted at geoscientists and technicians from Egypt, Arab and African countries. The working language is English. The course location alternates between Cairo and Aswan.
The course develops awareness among its participants about the causes and consequences of geological hazards; introduces the theoretical foundations and technical tools of seismological practice in its manifold aspects with regard to disasters; develops skills through practical exercises in applied seismology and develops an interdisciplinary understanding, in order to successfully cooperate with neighboring disciplines in the field of disaster mitigation.
The program consists of lectures, practical exercises, field observations. The courses are especially relevant for technical personnel at seismological stations, for interpreters of seismic data and scientists working on seismic zoning and hazard assessment. The successful participation is acknowledged by a course certificate.
