Observing of the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse from Helwan Observatory, NRIAG, 10 January 2020

The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse 10 Jan 2020, has been observed at National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) at Helwan. Solar Research Lab team at NRIAG observed the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse.The president of NRIAG, Prof. Gad El-Qadi shared this celebration from Helwan.
The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse cannot be seen with the naked eye and requires sensitive devices to monitor the intensity of radiation or Astronomical Telescopes to distinguish degrees of luminosity.

Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdelghaffar, the minister of higher education and scientific research heads the meeting of the board of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG).

The meeting was held on Sunday, 29th October with Prof. Dr. Gad El-Qady the president of NRIAG and the board members at the Ministry premises.

At the beginning of the meeting, the members have congratulated Prof. Abdelghaffar for renewing the confidence from the political leadership to him.

The minister confirmed the importance of collaboration between NRIAG and the child University, in the form of scientific trips and participating NRIAG in the child university programs.

Throughout the meeting, Prof. El-Qady has portrayed a report about the significant activities done by NRIAG over the second half of 2019, such as workshops, conferences, symposiums, lectures, national and international agreements. In addition, NRIAG has presented several training courses for various Egyptian university students and staff of different ministries such as the ministry of antiquities.

A study about the project of the Egyptian Larg Astronomy observatory has also been discussed, which is considered the launch of the biggest city of Astronomy sciences and space discovery in the Middle East. It definitely will enhance the Egyptian role in both national and international levels for those fields. This project can contribute to transferring those technologies to the field of optics, electronics, and control devices. Moreover, it supports the Egyptian leadership of establishing the Egyptian agency of Astronomy.

During the meeting, Dr. Ashraf Alqotb, the head of the intellectual property committee (PI) at NRIAG, has introduced a perspective about PI and how it is applied in/from the different scientific institutions.

The board has accepted the collaboration scientific protocol between NRIAG and the faculty of maritime sciences and Astronomy technology at Beni Suef University. Besides, the board accepted another protocol between NRIAG and Sohag University.

Finally, several related subjects to the teaching staff members regarding the preferments, assignments, and scientific committees have been discussed.

Laying the Foundation ٍStone for the Satellite Monitoring Station and Space Debris

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) on Sunday witnessed laying the foundation stone for the satellite and space debris observation station using laser and optical observations, in cooperation with the Chinese side represented by the Chinese Space Administration and in the presence of its vice president Tian YulongIn the presence of Dr. Gad Al-Qadi, President of the Institute. Model in the world after the station in China Note that the station in China’s diameter of the telescope is 60 cm and it is agreed that the diameter of the telescope 120 cm.
This came in the presence of Dr. Yasser Refaat, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research on behalf of the Minister and a selection of leaders of scientific research in Egypt, especially in the field of space and the President of the Egyptian Space Agency, and representatives of the relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Finance and the National Service A high-level delegation from the China Aerospace Research Administration, the Chinese Astronomical Observatory and the Changchun Light Institute, the institute for telescope manufacturing, is a Chinese delegation.

The institute has a laser satellite monitoring station that has been in operation since 1981 and monitors satellites to an altitude of 6,000 kilometers, while the station under construction will increase the capabilities of the institute and monitor satellites up to altitudes up to 40,000 kilometers.

Establishment of the Arab League for Astronomy and Space Sciences

Under the auspices of the Arab Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, affiliated to the League of Arab States, the founding meeting and the celebration of the Arab League for Astronomy and Space were held at the Kottamia Astronomical Observatory of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics. Palestine, Kuwait, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, where Prof. Dr. Gad El-Qady, President of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, was chosen as the General Secretary of the Association.

The organizing meeting of this association was held on the sidelines of the hosting of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the fourth Arab School of Astrophysics, in cooperation with the Arab Astronomical Society (Morocco) and the Scientific Society of Astronomy and Space (Egypt) from 19 to 26 October 2019 at the Kottamia Astronomical Observatory. The school is attended by 35 – 35 students (Egyptians and Arabs) representing the following Arab countries: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan, Lebanon and UAE. The number of lecturers 11 – eleven – (Egyptians, Arabs and foreigners) in addition to the number of five of the operating team of the astronomical site of Kottameia of scientists and engineers.
