Abu Simbel Geomagnetic Observatory
The observatory installation, foundation was completed in 2007 and became operational by the end of 2008. The observatory is located 15 km to the north of Abu Simbel city in Aswan governorate in south Egypt at 22.48°N & 31.54°E. The observatory uses Magson magnetometer for X, Y, Z variations measurements at 5 Hz sampling rate and geometrics proton magnetometer (G856) for total measurements. In addition, frequent absolute measurements are made using the DI flux theodolite. Moreover, the observatory hosts long period seismograph and permanent GPS station for earthquakes and crustal deformations studies. The collected data are instantly transmitted to the head quarters in Helwan via satellite link.
